As word spread of the new and exciting beach attraction that was bringing athletes from a variety of disciplines like outdoor wrestling and even circus performers, the beach park at Santa Monica came to be known as the place-to-be for celebrities, actors, stunt people and of course, bodybuilders. International fame continued to grow around this muscle beach in Los Angeles and gymnasts and athletes from all over contributed to it by providing their own gym equipment like bars, benches and weights, to help widen the breadth of activities that were offered at the park.
The Original Muscle Beach Santa Monica was most widely known for its athletes who practiced gymnastics. By the mids, Muscle Beach had established worldwide fame and became the reason there was such a large fitness movement in Santa Monica which spread quickly to surrounding cities in the region. The California fitness movement took off and in , the City of Santa Monica officially rededicated the park as the Original Muscle Beach, which still serves gymnasts, acrobats and youth today.
Gaining fame and momentum from the Original Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, Muscle Beach Venice became well-known for barbell, weightlifting and bodybuilding as well for the events that took place at the Venice weight pen. Compared to the bench press, the chest press machine is far safer. Because the machine uses cables and pulleys and is on a fixed line of movement, you won't need a spotter for this. Because you're using a machine and not a barbell, you can also use this machine for single arm pressing.
This will allow you to push strength to another level in ways you can't with a barbell bench press. Plus, when compared to the bench press, the chest press is far more efficient with your time. There's no need for you to add or remove weight like the barbell bench press. All you have to do is move the pin from one weight to the next and continue your workout. The bench press is a huge time investment.
Learning the proper technique and mastering the form takes more time than sitting down at a machine and pushing handles away from you. Besides the time required to learn the lift correctly, it's also time-consuming because you have to add weight plates to the bar. With rest periods between sets, it's not uncommon for your working sets on the bench to take nearly 15 to 20 minutes.
For some busy people, that's half or all of their workout. The bench press, when performed incorrectly or with too much weight too fast, can cause injuries to the shoulder joint. Since many people today work at computers and are hunched over internally rotated with their shoulders , lying down and putting your shoulders in an internally rotated position while you press the heavy weight off your chest isn't ideal.
As you get stronger with the bench press, you can always add more plates. But with the chest press machine, once you max out at the highest weight, there's no way to increase the difficulty of this exercise.
Fitness Workouts Chest Exercises. Chest Press vs. First you can just brush the knurl out with a firm nylon brush. A few select bar companies provide you with a nylon brush when you purchase a bar, but this is rare. If you need a deeper cleaning than a dry brushing, try mixing a mild dish detergent with tap water and use that with your nylon brush.
Finally, if you have both mild surface rust and some really caked-in gunk, you can buy some stainless steel cleaner from the store. Water is the enemy. Only when all else fails should you turn to abrasion cleaning with wire brushes. Truth be told, the vast majority of us will never see oxidation on our stainless steel barbells.
Something you are doing, or something in your environment is causing that rust. Figure out what it is and see what you can do to stop that going forward.
There are products that claim to protect stainless steel from oxidation. I am of the opinion that you do not need these products coating your barbell unless you live in a beach house on the East Coast or something. This is considered muggy; bordering on oppressive. Despite the relatively high moisture levels, I have still never had rust issues with stainless steel barbells.
Matter of fact, you can see some current pictures of one of my oldest stainless steel bars here. Beach rust is real. We have some stainless garage doors and copper drain pipes around here, right on the shore. We hope you enjoyed learning about buoyancy! Thanks for commenting. Ummehani Mar 29, I was studying Archimedes principal for my exams and couldn't understand it Thanks Wonderopolis!!
Mar 31, We're glad this Wonder was helpful! Thanks for stopping by Wonderopolis! Shianne Sep 13, Mar 29, We're glad you liked this Wonder, imani! Sep 14, Connor Apr 16, Very interesting! I always thought that the air in our lungs was keeping us afloat! Wonderopolis Apr 16, Charlie Apr 16, I have always wondered this for my 13 years of living yayayayayay bye by buy. Ryan Apr 15, Wonderopolis Apr 15, Emily Apr 15, So in this case it is the same as the way a boat floats?
But why is it that a boat is very heavy much like a bowling ball compared to a beach ball but yet it still floats on water? Gunhoundog Apr 15, This was very detailed and cool. Now I know why I can pick up my older cousin in the water. I like how it goes in depth with explaining the answer.
I thought they answered the question very well I understood it pretty well. Raelee Apr 15, WONDERful, thanks now I know why I can lift my brother and my friends up in the pool very easily thanks to you for teaching me about it and Archimedes for discovering it!!
Austin Apr 15, We do, Austin! We can't wait to go swimming this summer! Apr 9, Wonderopolis Apr 9, Hi, Max! We think it was a sunken submarine. Cool, huh? Junior F. Here is what I think you are saying: Why is it easier to lift someone in water than on land? Because of buoyancy. It makes you seem light but the preasure pushes you up helping you, Thats why you are lighter in water than on land. Is that right?
Kaden B. Here is what I think you are saying: It is easier because of buoyancy. That makes your friend lighter and buoyancy can make you float and you seem strong in water and that's why it is easier. Hunter Apr 8,
