Why does savannah marry tim

The synopsis below may give away important plot points. Getting Started Contributor Zone ». Edit page. Top Gap. See more gaps ». Just mostly when John comes back at the end and she begs him to stay and support her emotionally when she knows how hard it would be for him to be around her.

A decent person would have let him go and dealt with the situation she chose when she broke up with him. Not made it harder for the person she supposedly still loved. It also sort of disgusted me a little at the end when John was leaving and Savannah wanted to keep in contact.

I mean, maybe she was just being naive and wanted a friend to talk to or whatever, but I can't help thinking that she 'knew' that Tim wouldn't make it and wanted a back-up for when he was gone.

But yeah, I get that in the real world, things don't always work out where the two people in love wind up happily ever after. And sometimes I'm ok with a book like that. I mean, I loved a Walk to Remember and that was pretty dang depressing Apr 17, AM. I was just re-read DJ and still thinking that what John had given to her was his love.

See, when you love someone desperately, you' d do anything to make her happy even it's killed you inside. Savanah obviously didn't deserved his love or even Tim. They're both deserved better. I gave 5 Stars for John's unconditional love, for his salvation.

He's a real hero. Fuck Savanah! The ending was all we need, it supposed to be like that. She didn't deserve John. He's too nobke for her. NS knows how to end the story. Apr 17, PM. I guess reading from John's perspective, I am sort of influenced by his thoughts, which makes me not like Savannah for what she does. I think so, but I still dislike Savanah for huting John's heart.

I cried for John I disliked Savannah because she was too immature for a real relationship. By saying this, I mean she had to lead John on, and marry Tim, even though each of them will forever be impacted by her. She will always love both of them, and both of them will always love her, but in the end, I think she's a user.

She married Tim because she was desperate from relief of John's absence, and then was willing to throw Tim in the garbage bin for a little bit of John. Sorry if you disagree, but that is my opinion on the matter.

I think she's the type of cannot live without a man May 18, PM. Lelyana wrote: "I think she's the type of cannot live without a man Though I feel if that is the case, Tim was the better choice. John should be with a girl that appeals to both the military side and the rebellious as well. Tim was simply the most logical and most important reliable choice between the two. John is the better man, however, she did not like that he was always busy with the military.

May 23, PM. Mar 09, PM. I agree, She was selfish. If she wanted to help Tim and his boy there are plenty of other ways she could have helped, and I agree with Kristin, Savanna should have told John from the beginning. I Don't think she knew what love really was or she would have waited as long as she had to for John to come back. And if she loved Tim she wouldn't have cheated on him.

I understand the sympathy this is suppose to come from it, but I don't agree with her decisions. Again, I agree with Kristin, A love story should end with the two that are in love to be in love with each other at the end of the book.

Even if one passes at the end, they are still together. That's real love. Not this College girl who thinks she knows what she's feeling, but she doesn't, she only sees convenience in the relationship with Tim and the inconvenience of John's work. She's selfish, that's that. Apr 28, PM. May 03, AM. I thought Tim was a bit selfish, as Savanna.

I realize that he wanted to make sure his son will be safe after his death, but just not like that. I don't think marriage was the right solution. On the other hand, i was kind of surprised by John's reaction. He should have been mad, he was so wronged. I liked John, I dislike Savanna. And i have no feelings of hate or love for Tim. May 22, AM. I still feel bad for John Savanna should have waited for him to come back I like her but why she did this.

And why John feels bad for still loving Savanna, Tim is the one who should feel bad, he stealed John's girlfriend. Savanna said that she started felling in love with Tim but Tim said she loves John, so why she broke up with him??? Why she cheated on John??? She said that he is special so why you broke his heart??? I just started disliking Tim for that Oct 11, PM. I didn't realize there were readers that disliked Savannah this much.

I rented the DVD and from the very beginning figured out who was going to bite the dust. I patted myself on the back when I turned out to be right! Very frustrating to invest an hour and a half or more in a relationship only to know that it's pointless and doomed.

I just watched the second half of Dear John and your blog help clear up a few things. What I saw at the end of the movie was Savannah on her porch looking up at the moon. He said something I missed as I wasn't able to back up my dvr to hear it again but it's driving me crazy not knowing. On another site, the same scene with Savannah saying something like 'see you again' and it was posted that he said he would never be back. The movie reminded me of this girl in my college who kind of ignored me when I told her I liked her and then at the end of college started acting friendly.

And as a good sucker I smiled at her and said everything was okay. The film ends with John back in the US, where he chances upon Savannah in a coffee shop. The two wordlessly hug, and the story closes. However, the film also stresses the theme of how even the most ideal situations, like when John and Savannah first met, can end up taking an unexpected turn.

Therefore, even though there is a high chance that John and Savannah finally have the chance to be together, things might not be so simple. Irrespective of whether they end up together or not, the film confirms for us that the two share a deep and lasting relationship that has largely been built on the letters they shared.

Savannah says that she knows one thing for sure— that they will meet soon, which seems to imply that she will always consider John to be a part of her life, even if they are no longer romantically involved. And considering the film also stresses how time eventually runs out for every relationship, the fact that the two share a deep connection is perhaps more important than the relationship that they might or might not have. He also thinks about Savannah just before passing out. However, we see him recovering in a hospital in Germany later in the film, telling us that he does, in fact, survive.

Despite his repeated postings in war zones after getting shot, the film closes with John and Savannah hugging, telling us definitively that the Special Forces soldier is alive.
